Congratulations, you just booked your trip to Disney, what are you going to do next? Get training!
If you’ve been to Disney before then you know you are going to walk, walk, walk. Walk through the resort, walk from transportation to the parks, walk for hours in the park, and then back again. It is very common to walk 20,000+ steps every day.
One of the biggest tips we have to offer is whether your trip is in a few weeks or a few months, start walking to get your body ready for these long days. Even if you are someone who has excellent endurance, Disney is a whole new beast. Walking before hand is really going to help you enjoy your time more.
Here are a few things we have done to train for Disney!

- Use a walking pad! I love this one that has a handle that can hold a tablet and give you balance or has the ability to fold the arms down that goes perfect with number 2.
2. Pair your walking pad with a standing desk! I love this one because it is adjustable with a button and can easily go up and down based on my height and my husbands who also uses it. I love walking on it while I work (like writing this post) or I put on one of my favorite Disney Youtubers and walk around the parks with them.
3. Use a step counter to see how much you are actually moving in your day. I wear an Apple Watch like this one and love it. One thing I didn’t love was walking and keeping my arms moving, especially if I am trying to walk and work. So I also have these stretchy bands that allow you to put the watch on your ankle to track every single step! (Thanks to _finallyallison for this tip!)
4. Get a good pair of shoes. I went to a local shoe store and had someone help me. I have very wide feet and wanted a good walking shoe that wouldn’t hurt. I wear these Hoka’s and they held up so well for training, the whole trip, and are still my go to shoe.
5. Use a water bottle you like! I go back and forth from straws to no straw to expensive ones and cheap ones. I used this one from ello and loved it for the airplane and the parks so we didn’t have to worry about straws!
So here are just a few things that can help with your Disney training but, you definitely can just walk outside if you are able! Also, if you are someone who cannot walk or walk long distances, please don’t let that stop you from a Disney vacation! Disney is a very accessible place and they have accommodations for all bodies and abilities to enjoy their parks. Using ECV’s are very common and there are also Disability Access Services (DAS) passes.
